- Salman Ahmed, founder member of one of
South Asias well known rock
bands, Junoon, was appointed as UNAIDS
Global Special Representative/Goodwill
Ambassador in 2005. He assisted the
wider
UNAIDS family of the Secretariat
and Co-sponsors in their efforts to
prevent and reverse the spread of HIV
and AIDS by raising awareness through
his music and celebrity status.
Since then, he has
been involved in UNAIDS work at the
global level and has participated in
many advocacy events, mobilizing young
people to take an active role in HIV
prevention, treatment, care and support
efforts.
As part of his
assistance to UNAIDS in the global
campaign on
HIV,
Salman Ahmad, is completing his
five years of unwavering contribution to
raising awareness, and is presently,
touring colleges and Universities in
Pakistan from 24th - 26th
January 2011. In this tour, he will be
screening his music video of the song
Al-Vida produced and launched by him
in 2005, made possible with the
assistance of the Swiss Development
Cooperation (SDC) and
Family Health International (FHI).
He will be taking the message of HIV
prevention and minimizing stigma and
discrimination faced by People Living
with HIV especially to young men and
women of
Pakistan.
UNAIDS thanks and
appreciates Salman Ahmad for his
continued contribution to the worlds
response to AIDS globally and,
specifically, to Pakistan.
